Academic Success Criteria

Beginning with applications for the 2006-07 academic year, UC established minimum academic success criteria that apply to all students applying for admission to bachelor's degree programs. As a result, the freshman class entering in Fall 2006 is the most academically qualified class ever to enter UC.

For fall 2009 applications, the minimum academic criteria for admission to a baccalaureate program are:

Top 60% AND HS GPA ≥ 2.7 AND ACT/SAT 21/980

-OR-

(if high school does not provide a class rank)

ACT/SAT ≥ 22/1020 AND GPA ≥ 2.7

-OR-

Top 10% AND ACT/SAT ≥ 17/820 AND GPA ≥ 2.7

Important Note: Students who do not meet these quantitative criteria for a baccalaureate degree program will automatically receive a supplemental review from an admissions officer to assess their readiness for study at the baccalaureate level.

Key points about these criteria:

  • UC programs have varying admission requirements. Many majors have higher requirements than the minimum. These programs continue to have more selective criteria.
  • UC continues to offer open access through it's regional campuses. In addition, the Center for Access and Transition provides opportunity for students who have the potential to succeed in baccalaureate programs, but who have deficiencies that require focused support during their first year in college.
