UC requires one writing score from either the ACT or SAT for all first-time freshman applicants. Students submitting SAT scores automatically meet this requirement because the SAT includes a writing test. However if students take only the ACT, they must specify when registering that they wish to take the writing portion of the test and then send the resulting score to the University of Cincinnati.
If students wish to submit their ACT score because it is their best score, but they have also taken the SAT, they can fulfill their writing test score requirement by submitting their SAT test score. UC bases admission decisions on the student's best composite score.
