Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP)

What is PSEOP?
The PSEOP program enables high school students to earn college credit and/or high school graduation credit when they take classes at UC.

Advantages of PSEOP
PSEOP offers many advantages over simply enrolling in college-level classes:

  • Credit can be awarded to count for both college and high school.
  • UC provides advising to better assure applicability and transferability of college credit, and we automatically report grades to the high school.
  • Students take college courses with university students and are entitled to use all the learning resources available to UC students, such as libraries, computer labs and tutorial programs.

What courses may PSEOP students take?      They may take Freshmen-level courses available on the Uptown Campus (exceptions include: CCM -- courses by audition only, no marching band and  DAAP - only Art History sequence available, no studio art courses)

What is the cost?
During the regular academic year, tuition, fees, and book expenses are paid for by the program. (Students are responsible for all expenses beyond their textbooks.) Summer coursework is self-pay but can possibly be applied to high school graduation with permission of the school district.

Who is eligible?
All 9th through 12th grade students who are residents of Ohio are eligible to enroll in PSEOP. Academic qualifications vary depending on the student's high school grade level.

Important Considerations

  • The student's high school determines whether and how college credits earned apply to high school graduation requirements, grade point average, class rank, course equivalencies, etc.
  • UC is on a quarter system (3 quarters between September and June). This may differ from many high schools which operate on a semester system (2 quarters between September and June). The student is responsible for coordinating their high school and college class calendars and schedules.
  • PSEOP applicants must take required English and math placement tests and place into college level courses in both. PSEOP students may not take remedial level UC courses. Foreign language or other placement tests may also be required for specific course enrollment.
  • Availability of courses is not guaranteed.
  • Students who enroll in PSEOP are subject to the same administrative policies, grading policies, and standards as all other UC students.
  • Student must maintain a UC GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • The student's permanent college academic record begins with any college credit earned while still in high school.
